This screening features two documentaries: Harvey Richards's WE’LL NEVER TURN BACK (1963) and Howard Alk's THE MURDER OF FRED HAMPTON (1971). WE’LL NEVER TURN BACK records testimonies from sharecroppers and civil rights activists in Mississippi, highlighting the immense dangers they faced and their efforts to oppose them. THE MURDER OF FRED HAMPTON, initially a chronicle of the Illinois Black Panther Party, transforms into an investigative film after Hampton’s assassination, exposing brutal suppression. Both films showcase the dialectic of insurgency and repression within the Black liberation struggle. The screening on Tuesday, September 16, will be introduced by archivist Andrea Battleground.
